Rapture And Wright

Rapture and Wright is a great line of fabrics and wallpapers that is graphic but in a soft sort of way {I don't know exactly how to describe it but that is the word that comes to mind}.  They are all hand printed and can be made with custom colors which is helpful.  Sometimes it's so disappointing to have a fabric you love not available in the colors you need.

Eskayel

I was recently introduced to Eskayel fabrics and wallcoverings.  They can best be described as a rorschach test combined with a watercolor painting and some tie dye.

They are different than most fabrics and wallcoverings you will find out there, but if you want some you will have to save all your pennies, they are quite pricey.

Trove

I posted about Trove wallcoverings last year {well, I posted my ICFF photos from last year when I found them in January}, but I couldn't help taking a peak at what they were showing this year.

The new wallcoverings qualify for LEED points and are rated for commercial use as well as residential.  I can't wait to have a project where I can use these.

It's Two Years Later....

.

...and I still think about this dining room designed by the Gerald Pomeroy Design Group for the Boston Design Center's Dream Home {2008 I think}.  It's traditional but not stiflingly so and it had the most beautiful silver cherry blossom wallpaper.  I think I tracked down the source at the time but have since forgotten, I wish I still knew.

Distracted by Wallcoverings

I really love the Pemberley Wallpaper from Graham & Brown.  My old excuse being late for work was that I had become distracted by shiny things.  It was never actually a reason I was late for work {traffic was the culprit} but I really am distracted by shiny things.

This Darcy Wallpaper would also qualify for something distractingly good.  And the paper below is called Tempting, which I do believe is appropriate.

Trove Wallcoverings

I found this photo I had taken at the ICFF last year.  The wallcovering is from New York based Trove, which has some amazingly beautiful large-scale patterns.  {The pattern that is most prominent in the photo is called errai.}

It looks like they are now producing vinyl window films, which are so much nicer than much of what is out there, lighting and wood veneer wallcoverings.  There wasn't much detail about the new products on the website so I guess I will just have to wait until May to find out more.

I really like the large scaled patterns and the fact that some are a bit sparse.  This is very nice for large spaces or when you don't want a typical wallcovering pattern, some of them almost seem more like paintings than a wall covering.

The only downside I can see it there are so many fabulous patterns I can't decide which I like best!

Vintage Wallpaper - An Update

Well, it turns out I was wrong about waiting for a movie set design project to use the paper in my last post,  Someone has beaten me to it.  About 2 hours after writing the post I knocked over a stack of precariously balanced magazines I haven't found time to read yet.  I found an Interior Design magazine from September and was leafing through it and what did I see but that wallpaper in 675 Bar in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan!

This picture is from their website but there is a better one on their facebook page (the one from Interior Design).   It looks like a great place for a bar, dark with lots of little rooms and secret places.  I'll forgive them for their bookshelf - where it looks like they have filled it with books purchased by the yard.

Vintage Wallpaper

I stumbled across Secondhand Rose which sells vintage wallpaper at it's store in Manhattan and online.  I couldn't help but be cheered up by the patterns from the 60s and 70s.  The shop is only open on weekdays but next time I'm in the area and they are open I will be sure to check them out.  I actually can't wait.

I think I'd have design a tv or movie set (which would be amazingly fun I'm sure) to use these patterns, since I can't imagine a situation where I would use them.  I still love how they make me giggle when I look at them, it's great antidote for a rainy day.

Designers Guild

Ever since I discovered London-based Designers Guild, about 10 years ago, I have been a HUGE fan. While I was studying design in Boston, local modern design inspiration was hard to find. You could find some pockets available here and there but since it is a city with a ton of history I guess change was hard. In the last five to 10 years there has been a huge increase in the modern design resources available to Bostonians.

I was thinking about how much things have changed when I attended a seminar by Tricia Guild, Peter Osborne, and William Yeoward. Designers Guild has long been one of my favorite sources of not only fabrics and wallpapers but of inspiration. Now they have their own space in the Osborne & Little showroom in the design center. Although the wallpapers in the photo below don't do the color range justice, you only have to take a look at one of Tricia Guild's books to see the amazing colors and range of inspiration she draws from.


I think being exposed to a more modern style of design while surrounded by tradition helped shape what I design today. I adore interiors that are a mix of modern and traditional and am drawn to those with bright colors.

In fact, when I saw the photos of an office space I finished last year, I thought they had been Photoshopped since the common areas had photographed so brilliantly. Any place someone had to spend long periods of time in was more muted and neutral since I know color isn't something everyone is comfortable with but it sure was nice to be able to add color into the space. I do know that some of the occupants were very happy and proud of the 'nacho orange' color of a few of the walls.

Frank Fuzzy, Paris

With vinyl wall decals a dime a dozen, I was very impressed with Frank Fuzzy's flocked wall decals at the ICFF. Other than for custom work, it looks as if they have not yet started to distribute this self-adhesive velour in the US but perhaps some day soon it will be available.


They will also work with architects and designers to produce custom designs which could be a nice addition to paint in a retail or hotel with a small budget.

Bespoke Wallpapers

I love these bespoke {custom} wallpapers from South African visual artist, Anne-Sophie Leens of Apartment. Both the designs and colors are beautiful and have a lot of depth, they remind me of some of the beautiful interiors I've seen in Living Etc magazine.

Although these are shown in a residential setting, they'd certainly be at home in a retail or hospitality setting as well.
