Lzf Lighting

I found myself in love with these lights from Spanish company, Lzf Lamps. This is another image from my ICFF trip last year that I hadn't yet put up.

I love the Pod & Poppy pendant lamps shown below, especially in red, designed by Burkhard Dämmer.  They are simple but certainly not hard on the eyes.

I also enjoyed the Link suspension lamp designed by Ray Power {white is my favorite here}, I generally find myself drawn to items with curves rather than straight lines and this lamp is no exception.

Trove Wallcoverings

I found this photo I had taken at the ICFF last year.  The wallcovering is from New York based Trove, which has some amazingly beautiful large-scale patterns.  {The pattern that is most prominent in the photo is called errai.}

It looks like they are now producing vinyl window films, which are so much nicer than much of what is out there, lighting and wood veneer wallcoverings.  There wasn't much detail about the new products on the website so I guess I will just have to wait until May to find out more.

I really like the large scaled patterns and the fact that some are a bit sparse.  This is very nice for large spaces or when you don't want a typical wallcovering pattern, some of them almost seem more like paintings than a wall covering.

The only downside I can see it there are so many fabulous patterns I can't decide which I like best!

Cascade Ceiling Lights

I recently found this image of the Cascade ceiling light by Ango from the ICFF that I had never posted.


The light from these fixtures is beautiful and soft and, at 3 feet high, the lights themselves make quite a statement.

Recycled Cardboard Lighting

I'm a sucker for things that are made from recycled materials, assuming of course, that they are well designed and well made. I think these Scraplights from Graypants are fabulous, especially the shape in the top photo. They are made of pieces of corrugated cardboard which throw amazing patterns on your wall but look just as good off.

They aren't cheap but they are reasonably priced and from the looks of it, well worth it.

Frank Fuzzy, Paris

With vinyl wall decals a dime a dozen, I was very impressed with Frank Fuzzy's flocked wall decals at the ICFF. Other than for custom work, it looks as if they have not yet started to distribute this self-adhesive velour in the US but perhaps some day soon it will be available.


They will also work with architects and designers to produce custom designs which could be a nice addition to paint in a retail or hotel with a small budget.

Soft Seating

I am always intrigued when I see this seat, by Molo, since I love how it looks, but I'm not so sure about it. I realize practicality isn't everything but it is only pretty until someone sits on it and squishes it.


And at $3500 a pop, I'd want it to still be pretty after I used it.

On the other hand, I do love their urchin softlight. The quality of the light is amazing and since they aren't moved as much they hopefully wouldn't be damaged as easily.

Blu Dot

Blu Dot has some great new basic modern furniture pieces, as usual. I loved the sofa with a modern take on tufting. It had 'x's sewn in the place where you traditionally would find buttons.

A simple, modern gray sectional could be used almost anywhere and pulled apart when the mood strikes.

I have to say though that the favorite thing in their display was the blue squirrel patrol.

They also have a great clock to download from their website for the desktop of your computer. It keeps time with a different picture for every minute of the day.

Dancing Table

I love this new table by Joel Escalona, called the Dancing Table. As you can see in the ruffle on the edge, the table has been modeled after Mexican traditional dances and dresses.

I came across it at the ICFF studio by Bernhardt Design and can't help but think of how great the white one will look next to my sofa {once I have reupholstered it}. Unfortunately there are only a limited number available so by the time I've made up my mind, they'll probably be gone.

The table itself is very simple and modern and I have to say it was one of my favorite new pieces at the show this year. The only drawback I can see to the table is the material it is made of. It was made of plastic {fiberglass?} and it didn't seem all that sturdy, meaning it would be more of a show piece than a useful side table.

Fluttering Wall Covering

Catherine Hammerton is a London-based textile designer. I took this picture of Catherine Hammerton's new line of wall covering at the ICFF, I think it would be great in a small entryway as it has a great texture that is best appreciated in a small area with a lot of light.

The wall covering is hand cut pieces of paper, shaped as leaves and stitched to a backing. The paper below is from her new line but you can see the previous ginkgo wall covering on her website, she has an online shop as well. What I really love about her designs is that they are produced by a cooperative offering training to local people with mental health issues, she uses FSC certified papers, reclaimed and vintage materials, and vegetable based inks.


This means it is good for the environment and the community.

Belgian Shade Company

The Belgian Shade Company had their beautiful tailored shades on display at the ICFF. The shades are very well constructed and come in all sorts of fabrics. They would look great in both modern and traditional spaces.

Although I'm not sure of the pricing, they say they are 'rationally priced'.  They would be even better if you could use custom fabric but it appears, at the moment, it is not an option.

Where Stylish Cats Do Their Business

I came across these new litterboxes and think they are fantastic. They made me giggle they were so great and the people at the ICFF booth were great as well. Finally a litter box that is a bit nicer on the eye, you almost don't know what it is {except for the scoop on the side}. I think in white it is the most unobtrusive.

It looks a bit small on first view but on the Modkat website they have a video of a fairly long cat using the box and it seems to work quite nicely.

The downside I see is that, at $180, they cost about as much as a {very low end} toilet but it doesn't flush, you still have to clean it by hand.

IKEA PS 2009 Products

IKEA had a display of their new PS collection, which I believe is due out in the late summer or fall {2009}. They had a fairly large collection of new items some of which were fabulous. I admittedly have a love/hate relationship with IKEA. I like to buy items that will last forever and are well-made or at least look like it. There are so many things I see at IKEA where I love the style of the item but, when I see it close-up, the quality doesn't justify a purchase. That said, I have a number of items from IKEA that I am happy with, I'm just very selective and make sure the item will last {at least in theory, like the world's most expensive scratching post}.


 I love the pendant light in the image above. They are quite simple and made of natural materials.

While I was there I really focused on the lighting but looking at my photographs when I got home I kept seeing these great chairs in the pictures. On the photo above you can see it in gray against the red wall and below it is the red chair to the left. It's a bit hard to see but there is a better image here.



I thought this pendant light was fascinating. It is quite large and I think it would be even better with some sort of screen around the light source. I just wonder, with it being from IKEA, how long it takes to assemble.

Kotori Pendant Lamp

I came across these pendant lights, made by Hiyoshiya, at the Japan by Design section of the ICFF. The picture doesn't do them justice, since my photography depends more on luck than skill and luck seems to have deserted me here.

The lights are actually made of bamboo and fabric-like washi paper but can be custom-made with your own fabric or paper. They are constructed like traditional Japanese umbrellas and fold down to a very small size for storage and portability. You can see better images here.

Sleeping In Style

If I had kids and a million dollars I'd probably get them one of these beds for sleepovers. Flou beds are beautifully made and have many options for adding space and storage in small spaces, with pull-out beds underneath or storage where the top of the bed {mattress and all} lift up so no one would ever know the storage is there - see a good picture here. I loved their booth at the ICFF, with all the grays it was very serene.

They're on the pricey side, but they are beautiful.

Madison & Grow

Some of my favorite new products at the ICFF were in the Madison & Grow booth. They produce fabrics and wallcoverings in Los Angleles.

I love how the designs are relatively simple and the more complex patterns are so fabulous they aren't really overpowering. I have to admit, I have always cringed when asked to pull wallcoverings for work. The paper ones, although beautiful, have a sort of smell to them that is a bit like formaldehyde. These papers are made with water based ink and have no VOCs which make them even better in my mind. The photos I took don't do them justice so be sure to visit their site if you want to see more.

Discoco Pendant Light

I was fortunate to attend the ICFF in Manhattan this past weekend and I wanted to share some of my favorite finds during my next posts.

One of my favorite lights was the Discoco Pendant Light by Christophe Matheiu from Marset. The light is made from steel rods and ABS plastic. I guess that is the only drawback that I see. I would prefer if it were made all out of powdercoated steel or aluminum than plastic but it is very well designed and I actually couldn't tell until I did some further research on the fixture.

One thing I really like about the fixture is the fact that you can't see the light source. I find it really distracting to have the light source visible, though there are some lights that pull it off. With the glossy white surfaces, the light bounces around and creates a nice glow.
