Walltech Bookshelf

I found these photos I took back at the ICFF of this bookshelf by Walltech. I wish I could tell you more about the company but I can only find a vague reference to it being located in Seoul, South Korea.

I'm really drawn to the colors of this bookshelf and the fact that it's also an art piece where you push and pull the pieces of wood in the bundle to make your own shelf.  I really love that it's adjustable for what you are storing or displaying at the moment and that it doesn't take itself too seriously.  For this reason, I think it would be really fun in a retail setting.
 

Innit

As in I wanna sit innit.

I'm digging out my old photos from the ICFF again and since I have spent most of this summer avoiding the outdoors, I can't wait for fall when I can enjoy the time I am outside.  Maybe I'd like summer more if I spent it in a colorful and comfortable chair? 

The squishy cords of this Acapulco chair are quite comfortable, like those old lawn chairs popular in the 80s.  I think I like the simple round shape of the Innit style {see the yellow one on the right side} the best.

George Sacaris Studio & Faux Bois

I posted about these Faux Bois tree tables last year but I love the new styles out, like the log benches and the metallic mirrored finish.

I still think the brightly colored coffee table and larger sizes would be great in a retail display and the small stumps would make a great bedside table.  If I remember the conversation correctly {this is from the ICFF back in May, so it's been a while}, some of the finishes can even be used outdoors.

Astek Wallcoverings

Instant art wall, anyone?

I really love this wallcovering by Astek.  The have a huge range of wallcoverings and can do anything custom. I actually first saw their work {which is used a lot in TV and film} at the 2010 or 2011 ICFF and I have been waiting for the right project to use them.

The wallpaper above is used to show some of their wallpaper patterns, but would be great for kids artwork.  The drawings can be cut to size and hung in the 'frames' and then changed out when there is something new.  I would have the wall changed from the rustic wood to something a bit more modern though.

Thanks for all your nice comments about my issues with Yahoo {the most evil company in the world, or more appropriately, the least intelligent and least user friendly}.  I haven't gained access to my account yet but I have their phone number and I plan to call every. single. day.  I also have a letter to send to the new C.E.O.  If she can't help the company they might as well close up shop.

Camilla Meijer

I apologize for being like the weather channel lately {and only talking about things WAY after they actually happened} but at least no one reads my blog to find out if they will get a foot of snow dumped on the ground while they are at work.

As usual, my picture doesn't do these wallpapers and textiles from Camilla Meijer justice.  I am in love with the owl print and the bird print you can kind of see to the left, but my favorite is this pattern. and if you look closely at the book on the floor you can see that I was excitedly flipping though and had found my favorite.  As the last wallpapers I posted on were, these are based on drawings by Camilla. 

I also got a bit of a crash course in British slang during our short conversation and I tried really hard to keep up.  I'm pretty sure I figured it all in the end but I really hope my being slow on the uptake didn't show.

Grow House Grow

I accidentally stopped putting up my ICFF and Kip's Bay images, but there's no time like the present to get back on track.

One thing I noticed at the ICFF was that there were a lot of hand drawn fabrics and wallcoverings.  Grow House Grow was one of these. If I remember the story correctly, they are actually illustrations of stories Kate Deedy's {the artist's} mother used to tell her growing up.

It makes things so much more meaningful than "I drew it because it's pretty" which is not wrong but just doesn't have a compelling story behind it.

Naja Utzon Popov Carpets

A couple of days ago I posted about my desire for a carpet that isn't used as a kitty skateboard. This carpet by Naja Utzon Popov {seen at this year's ICFF} is also on my dream carpet list. It's made of wool from New Zealand {which is where you want your wool from, not a place with rainy and dry seasons.  This is why cheap wool carpets shed a lot, the change from wet to dry climate makes the wool brittle in spots and likely to break}.

These carpets are sculpted wool so the edges of all the fuschia leaves are carved by hand and I believe some also have silk. I did take some time to pet the carpet and it was super soft.

So beautiful.

Amy Helfan Carpets

In my dream world where I can have everything I want, I would have a new carpet. I currently use carpet squares which, if I had a normal pet would be wonderful. Unfortunately my cat pulls the squares apart, eats the tape used to hold them together, and then uses them as flying carpets to slide around the room.

One of these beautiful carpets from Amy Helfand, seen at this year's ICFF, would fit the bill perfectly and look so nice with my newly upholstered sofa.  Silk and wool carpets are my absolute favorite carpets on earth.  The silk looks and feels amazing and the wool grounds the carpet {you can see the shimmery color of the silk in the blues above}.  Sadly for my living room, these carpets generally cost more than my car did, so it will have to go on my "if I win the lottery list".

I can dream, can't I?

Knoll - Petal Table

Keeping with the outdoor theme of this week's ICFF posts I'm posting this little outdoor Petal Table by Richard Schultz for Knoll. I really like the shape of the top and think it would work well in many spaces.

Is it a terrible thing to say that I would love it even more than I do with a less complicated and leggy base?  I'm not saying it's out of the running for me, I'm just saying that would make me happier.

Marka Moderna

I am in love with these Marka Moderna chairs I saw at the ICFF.  They are loungy,  cheerfully colored and have speed stripes!  They come in solid and perforated metal but I like that the perforated metal would allow some air to circulate, especially if you are sitting on metal on a hot summer day.

Sancal - Tea Chair

I hadn't heard of Sancal before this year's visit to the ICFF, but fell in love with this little Tea chair.

The shape is perfect and I really like the quilted honeycomb pattern of the fabric. 

I managed to get my feet in a lot of pictures on this trip so you may see them here and there when I don't feel like Photoshopping them out.

Ana Romero Textiles

I love this beautiful patterns by of the Ana Romero Collection I found at this year's ICFF.  Sold as pillows and other accessories, this fabric is some of the nicest silk I have come across in a while.

I love the chevron stripe in the pink and the pattern made into wallpaper for the booth.  I would love to see these patterns sold as fabric by the yard some day and was I was told it was a possibility for the future.

Jamie Harris Studio

One of the first things I walked by at the ICFF were these hand-blown glass pendant lights from Jamie Harris Studio.  I love the shape and color of these, they remind me of the 60s.

The pendants below are a little more serious, simple and elegant.  I love the double glass shades and the color on the interior shade.  I could also see them looking great in the colors above.

Tweet Stool

I think my favorite part of the furniture fair every year is the ICFF Studio where up and coming designers show their prototypes and are hopefully matched up with a manufacturer {previous years are here: 2011, 2010 and 2009}.  This year, my favorite was this Tweet Stool by Ji-In Kim.  The piece is a small metal stool with a bird silhouette carved into the seat.
 

The bird silhouette casts a shadow resembling a bird in a cage.  As you sit on the stool to relax, the bird disappears and you "release" the bird from it's cage.

It's nice for outdoors and stacks so it's good for city people with small to no extra storage.  This is such a great piece, I really hope it is produced.

The Weekend

It's finally here!  I'm planning on wandering on over to both the ICFF and the Kip's Bay Showhouse over the weekend, and I guarantee you'll see so many photos from these places that you'll beg me to stop.  I think last year my ICFF photos alone kept me going through August.

I love this building with it's gross mottled red tiles {which I think are kind of great}, the gray brick, and the fairly simple but dramatic lintels {the stones above the windows}.  Last time I was in Little Italy I took some photos of the buildings on a couple corners from all streets and angles so my father could identify which building my great grandmother lived in when he was young.  This is it!  Too bad they weren't the buying type, it has great views of the Manhattan Bridge.
