Thinking Pink

I'm pretty sure I have mentioned my love of extremely vibrant pinks before. It's not often that I get to use it in a project so I have to live vicariously through those who can. Needless to say, I fell in love with this bright, cheerful interior I found on HGTV {via Pinterest}.

I really like the molding on the ceiling.  Ceilings are so overlooked in design that it's nice to see one with a treatment like this.

In other news, there may be a home for the flooring I mentioned last week. Not the one pictured and not in pink, but the striped version may be coming soon to an office building near you.  Assuming you live near Boston, of course.

White Interiors

I actually LOVE winter.  Well, I love it as long as I don't have to shovel or drive in the snow.  Watching the snow come down fast and furious on Saturday I came across this house featured in House Beautiful that has a look makes me want a bit of summer {or spring} right about now.

Blue & Red Bathroom

I was poking around the Elle Decor website the other day and came across this bathroom by Sheila Bridges.

It's simple and cheerful and reminds me of summer, just what I needed on a cold, rainy day.  I especially love the penny tile {?} floor with the red border.

Modern Marble & Wood Bathroom

I was looking through the November issue of Living Etc and came across this bathroom that I love.  What specifically caught my eye are the two slabs of marble set in the wall as a backdrop for the tub.  It's simple and really beautiful I think and shows that less is better.

It's funny because I go back and forth with bathrooms.  I was recently going through pictures of a bathroom I designed that has 1"x2" glass mosaics tile from floor to ceiling {it was done for another firm so I can't post the pictures and, sadly, they don't have them posted either}.  I absolutely love the look of glass {and marble} mosaic tiles but would hate to have to maintain them myself.  This specific client had someone else do the cleaning so he wasn't worried about all the grout.

I'm also all for the wood floor.  It's higher maintenance than a tile floor in a bathroom but worth it.

Or at least it seems like it today with all the snow.  I kind of like snow, not to drive in but I love snow storms and snow so much that I prefer to go on vacation in the winter to Montreal {I realize this is sick since the temps can get well below zero}.  It's really pretty there in the winter though.

Kips Bay Showhouse - The Master Bath Retreat

The second floor master bathroom was designed by Cayley Barrett Associates.  The limestone on the walls of the tub was amazing. There was a trough sink opposite the tub that was just as fabulous.  I didn't take a photo of it but you can see one here, I really like when sinks are a bit different.

One of my favorite parts of the bathroom was the stone radiator cover.

The dressing room was next door.

I didn't notice at the time but this side table looks very familiar.

There was a video camera and a screen showing people walking around in the room that I thought was a bit off-putting, but overall the room was nice.

Infinity Drain

I was really excited to see the Infinity Drain in person last month. I had specified it on a project recently on the advice of someone else in the office and it looks as nice in person as it does online.  It comes in a bunch of styles {I was originally told to use a grate drain} but my favorite is the tile-in drain. 

For showers that have a pitch on all four sides, they just recently came out with a square drain that sure beats the standard shower drain.

If you are building a shower from scratch you can use the linear style, all you see are a few thin lines where the water drains down.

And, being ever annoyingly practical as usual, I asked to see how the drain can be unclogged {I have pretty long hair so this is important to me}. Fortunately it turns out that it's super easy to open so it's functional as well as beautiful.

Kips Bay Showhouse - The Bathroom

The smaller bathroom on the second floor of the showhouse, by Jamie Herzlinger, was simple and graphic.  The stools also made an appearance earlier that day at the ICFF.

Window Shade - D-I-whY

In the beginning of January I made this shade as a Christmas gift for my sister's bathroom. It's partly a present to myself since her previous shade didn't go up and down {and was stuck in the up position} and it's their only bathroom.

It was actually pretty easy to make and, although the fabric was selected with kids in mind, it can be changed as they grow up fairly easily. The only thing that I goofed on was the bottom and not taking into account the fact that in the light the fabric is transparent. I am planning on getting a wider bottom trim to hide the doubled fabric since the 1" polka dots aren't cutting it.

Currently, we are working on the master bedroom but the bathroom is next on the list of things to renovate so I will be sure to update the progress when it happens.

Metallic Tubs

Metallic bathtubs are something I started to really notice and love last fall.  They are at home in pretty much any style of bathroom.

New Lonny

There's a new Lonny Magazine issue out online.  I saw it on my facebook page early yesterday morning, got excited about it and then promptly forgot about it.

One of my favorite rooms was this living room.  I'm not sure I would have been drawn to it as much without the silly moose head on the wall.  Without it the room might take itself too seriously - it would still be a beautiful room, just a very serious one.

I enjoyed the article on Kate Spade's Deborah Lloyd country house.  For me, designing windows for Kate Spade would be a dream job.  My favorite detail found in a couple of her rooms were the grosgrain ribbon drapery ties.  They are my favorite way to hold back curtains when you want something that is both inexpensive and informal.

Tower 23 Hotel

I love this bathroom at the Tower 23 Hotel in San Diego, California.



One thing I'm not sold on is the glass doors into the bathroom from the guestroom. I think it's fine if you're staying there alone but other than that, I'd rather have an opaque door.
