Catching Up On Sleep

I've been trying to catch up on sleep lately and that leads me to become fascinated with bedrooms.  This time it is this bed.

Bristol Bed

Tufting, antiqued mirror and wood legs brushed with gold.  It's so over the top I love it.

On a related note, I was waylaid picking up food for my mother on Mother's Day by a turkey standing in the middle of the road with his tail feathers all out on display.  Every time I crept a bit closer to him he would stare me down and lift his tail a bit higher.  Sadly, a car came the other way and when it drove by he moved over enough for me to carefully go around, and I hadn't yet found my camera.  It made me so happy though.

Red & White Bedroom

This bedroom from Anthony Barratta {formerly Diamond Barratta Design} makes me smile.From the marshmallow sofa inspired headboard, to the Paul Carruthers prints on either side of the bed, to the brightly colored bedding and monogrammed pillows, nothing about this room is restrained.

So, while my bedrooms are generally more subdued, I can't help but enjoy this one.  Especially that artwork.  It would be fun to do at home with those office store stickers too.

White Interiors

I actually LOVE winter.  Well, I love it as long as I don't have to shovel or drive in the snow.  Watching the snow come down fast and furious on Saturday I came across this house featured in House Beautiful that has a look makes me want a bit of summer {or spring} right about now.

Red & White Bedroom

Happy Hannukah to everyone celebrating!

I thought this bedroom would be perfect to post right before Christmas. I love how simple it is, and am in love with the Pierre Frey wallpaper and the serene feeling of the room.

It's nice to be ready for Christmas early.  I can just enjoy things {or help people who are freaking out finish up}.

New Girl

At home I have bunny ears and a digital converter box for my television which makes for some pretty annoying tv watching I must say, so I usually watch most of my shows online. I managed to get myself a pretty nasty cold and the work that I was supposed to be doing gave me a headache so I decided to catch up on shows {which I usually 'watch' on a tiny window on my computer when I'm doing other things}.  Since I wasn't multi-tasking today, I happened to notice this bedroom on New Girl. 

It's super cute, so while I was lying around recovering and avoiding work that made my head hurt, I decided to do fun things that made my head hurt like putting together rooms inspired by this bedroom.

The first version is closest to the original bedroom but I liked the blue side cabinet instead of red, there are some red in the second version and all three of these are pretty mix and match.

The second version leans a bit toward the spice colors.  I really did like the fabric though so I grabbed some other items to go in the mix.

Happy First Day of Winter!!!!

Or at least it seems like it today with all the snow.  I kind of like snow, not to drive in but I love snow storms and snow so much that I prefer to go on vacation in the winter to Montreal {I realize this is sick since the temps can get well below zero}.  It's really pretty there in the winter though.

Clei

This murphy-bed from Clei is a bit of an upgrade from the traditional murphy bed as it incorporates a sofa in the unit.  This is really nice if you have a small space and don't want to have to decide on a sofa or a bed.

I didn't get a photo of the bed down but all you have to do is remove two of the pillows from the sofa {and anything on the shelf} and fold the bed down.  They have some great fold-away bunk beds as well.

Kips Bay Showhouse - The Bedroom

I waited until near the end of my Kips Bay posts to put my photos of this bedroom, by Amanda Nisbet Design, {or at least photos of the bed} up, since they have made their way around the internet.  My pictures all visited Photoshop to have parts put back in {or faked, can you tell?} where a woman kept jumping in the way.

This little side table sort of reminds me of a square, gold Eileen Gray table.

And, though I'm not as much a gold person as a silver person.  I did find myself liking this mirror and the chunky side table.

Orange & Brown

The past couple of weeks have been absolutely nutty for me.  I have been working on many very different projects - a school, a couple of hotels and I even babysat an apartment while they filmed a pilot for a design show.  I'm hoping things are back to normal and I will have time each day to relax and maybe to get more than 6 hours of sleep, but in the meantime I thought I'd put up a bunch of inspiration photos of the color scheme I used in a recent hotel: orange and brown.

I proposed a houndstooth carpet in one of the projects, we'll see what they say about that....

New Lonny

There's a new Lonny Magazine issue out online.  I saw it on my facebook page early yesterday morning, got excited about it and then promptly forgot about it.

One of my favorite rooms was this living room.  I'm not sure I would have been drawn to it as much without the silly moose head on the wall.  Without it the room might take itself too seriously - it would still be a beautiful room, just a very serious one.

I enjoyed the article on Kate Spade's Deborah Lloyd country house.  For me, designing windows for Kate Spade would be a dream job.  My favorite detail found in a couple of her rooms were the grosgrain ribbon drapery ties.  They are my favorite way to hold back curtains when you want something that is both inexpensive and informal.

Newest Lonny Magazine

So I realize I'm probably the last person to take a look at the latest Lonny Magazine but I just popped over to their website to look at it and saw that they've made some great changes.  I really love the new image gallery.

I like the magazine and hope they keep it up online or publish it as an actual magazine some day.  I also still hope they add a save feature to the online issues.  I couldn't find a contact email or I'd offer to help figure out the save feature....

More Bedroms

I woke up at 4:30 this morning {it's not much later now} and am wide awake.  I figured I'd be "productive" by blogging and catching up on shows online.  Since today is a long day for me I thought I'd put up some more of my favorite bedrooms - these may be the only beds I'll be seeing for a while.

As long as I'm up and being productive, I'm going to walk to Burdick's before work.  I forgot to get my parents bunnies for Easter this year {they get these every year and love them}.  I'm hoping they have some left to sell.  Otherwise they will get the mice which are just as cute and probably just as delicious!

All Confused

I've spent the day confusing people about what week it is.  At the same time I know it's April 5th, I keep telling people that it's next week and finalizing plans for next week like it is now.

I think I just need sleep.  I also think I'd sleep much better if I had this bedroom.

Nightstands

I have an old step stool as one of my nightstands - I've been using it ever since I was a college student and it works {kind of}.  Most of the problem is that the cat really likes jumping around under it and flinging stuff off the top, so nothing really stays on it.

Sometimes I think about buying one that I can actually put stuff in but not until I find the perfect one.  I really like some of the nightstands in this slide show.

Busy, Busy

I have been crazy busy lately {in a good way fortunately}.  Seeing this bedroom makes me want to grab a book, from the stack I have waiting, and lie in bed reading all day instead.

Eco-Modern Nursery

I love this eco-modern nursery by the creator of Boopalina + Bebe, Kristen Angelo, who makes a line of organic baby blankets, bibs and other fabulous items for the stylish, modern baby. I have to say this room makes it to the top of my great baby rooms list {this list is in my head really, but it's there somewhere}. It is very bright and the splashes of color make it such a cheerful place.


The numbers on the wall serve both as a design feature that adults can appreciate and that children can learn from. The mobile is made from salvaged needlework hoops and painted with zero-voc stain and zero formaldehyde and low-voc polyurethane. The mobile is another design that appeals to all ages. The retro print on the blanket hanging over the crib reminds me of my childhood but is still modern, not dated.

I love the mixture of modern and vintage toys. The ugly doll looks quite at home next to the vintage duck toy and wooden xylophone.
