Pavement Coffee :: Part Two

I love when my work takes me close to my favorite coffee shops because coffee makes me happy.  The other week I had to go to a building right next to a coffee shop I used to go to regularly and I've also posted about.

It's been a while though.  The coffee wasn't as good as I remembered it, and they no longer honor the coffee buying card, but I did like the interior still with the wood and tiny tile floor.  So that was worth the trip. 

The next time I'm in that area I can try a new place and maybe I'll even find a new favorite shop!

SONO Caffeine

This isn't as much a restaurant or hotel interior post as I like to do on Tuesdays, it's more a chair post.  I was in the New York Tri-State area last week and of course had to find a coffee place to stop at and settled upon a place called Caffeine.  I love that they are up front about why people are coming in.

And I found this chair.

A low armed tortoise shell bamboo chair with caning.  And it was on wheels!  While I wasn't enamored with the area, there are two great places to visit if you happen to find yourself in South Norwalk, CT - SONO Caffeine and Chocopologie. 

The only sad thing about the trip was that I had a list of places I wanted to visit but wound up leaving the house more than 2 hours later than I had intended so this was the only stop I made.

D'Espresso - Sideways Coffee

Desperate for both a drink {it was hot and, as far as I could tell, no one on Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side sells coffee} and a place to wash my hands, I stumbled out of the subway station and into this sideways coffee shop near Grand Central.

There are walls of herringbone wood flooring, a floor and walls of 'books', and pendant lights hung from the wall as if it was the ceiling.  Surprisingly they also fit a teensy bathroom with a impossibly small Cosmic sink for impossibly small bathrooms.

This is the same sink from a MOMA exhibit back in 2009, not from D'Espresso.

The sink measures 7 1/2" x 16 inches {20x40 cm}.  It is just large enough for a stream of water and is perfect for bathrooms that take the term 'water closet' literally.

Pavement Coffee

I've made no secret about my love for coffee and since it's my birthday week I figure I should post about something I really, really love. One of my favorite Boston coffee shops is Pavement Coffee in the Back Bay, designed by Brookline-based Lana Kirby. I found it a couple of months after it opened {last fall} when I was taking a class in the area and looked forward to visiting weekly before class.  Unlike some of my other favorite coffee shops, I also like the design of this space.

What I like most is the lighting and the upholstered furniture which looks very comfortable.

I'll admit I've never actually stayed and had my coffee in the shop.  Being in Boston, it's right around the corner from about 65 colleges so it's always packed, usually by Berkeley College students.

Cielito Querido Café

I currently work in a coffee desert, so when I saw these images of Cielito Querido Café I was excited.  This is not only because I miss coffee, but because I love the bright colors and graphic patterns used throughout the shops.

Too bad I don't work in Mexico City....
