A Bit of Humor for the Weekend

In college {as an undergraduate}, my friends and I would spend hours on end making up stories for people we saw daily but didn't know.  We had complete life stories for the people we knew by sight in the dining commons, regulars at coffee shops and the "townies".  They all had descriptive nicknames as well for easy identification.

I came across Unhappy Hipsters, a website doing a modified version of this but using photographs from Dwell.  It totally made my day so I had to share.

Warm Modern Living Room

I found this fabulous ad for carpet from the Anji Mountain Bamboo Rug Company. Their rugs are made of 80% bamboo which, in my experience, is incredibly soft and dries very quickly. I'm not sure why bamboo dries so quickly but for towels it's a great feature.


I love the feeling of this warm modern living room. Although there is no color, the wood tones, the plush rug, and the curved shape of the coffee table, along with the sunlight streaming through the window, give the space this warm feeling. I also like that the curves on the coffee table allow those who are accident prone *ahem* to walk around without fear and, for that reason, it would also be great for kids.

Delis

I just received my new issue of Dwell and there was a fantastic deli inside, the Taylor Deli in DC. It's very modern and rustic with boards used as both a wall treatment and counter material.


Then the search led to the Story Deli in London which is a different sort of rustic modern design and has stools made of repurposed cardboard packing boxes which I absolutely love! (This picture is hard to see, but a better one is here.)


I can't imagine the boxes would be comfy to sit on long term but for a slice of pizza they would probably be fine.
