J. Crew's Back to School Window

While not the most exciting window ever, I like this back to school window display at J. Crew because of it's simplicity. It would be great for a shop with a low {or no} window display budget.

Red and Turquoise - Part II

So, after last week's post on the red and turquoise color combination, Herman Miller sent me this {they email me once a week, it was just a coincidence}.

via Herman Miller

The red is a bit more clean and the turquoise is a genuine turquoise {as opposed to the previous blue which was verging on teal}.  I still like it, maybe a bit more than the last.  I think part of the reason the colors above work so well is because of all the white, this allows the colors to breathe {I can't think of a better word for this} and be seen as an accent.

I always find it interesting to see everyone's opinion on colors since they are so personal and can cause such emotional reactions in people.  I was recently asked to propose an additional carpet for a project I'm working on.  The acid green and grey carpet being installed in the open areas, that over half the office preferred to the other option, caused such a violently negative reaction in those that didn't like it that they wanted to tone it down a bit.

Escada Window Display - Trunks

As I was checking out the Hermes windows I found this Escada window with these white boxes.

Up close, they are simple, hand drawn trunks.

I like them and the simplicity. Kind of reminds me of this window display from a few years back.

Red and Turquoise

I'm still loving the color combination of red and turquoise.  I tried to use it in a project last week with a brown {almost animal printish carpet} but the company logo was wrong for the red.  I'm kind of sad about it because it's not often you get a carpet allowance as high as they had but we might just change out the paint colors for all blues and neutrals, no red.  Their lunch room would have been kind of similar to this but with a blue floor, white cabinetry and red walls.

They will still have the high gloss cabinets I wanted and nicer looking hardware so there's something good right there.  I really wanted to convince them to change the company logo but I restrained myself.

Do you guys love or hate the red and blue color combination?  I tried not to like it but I really do.

As in I wanna sit innit.

I'm digging out my old photos from the ICFF again and since I have spent most of this summer avoiding the outdoors, I can't wait for fall when I can enjoy the time I am outside.  Maybe I'd like summer more if I spent it in a colorful and comfortable chair?

The squishy cords of this Acapulco chair are quite comfortable, like those old lawn chairs popular in the 80s.  I think I like the simple round shape of the Innit style {see the yellow one on the right side} the best.

J. Crew - Hot Days, Cool Looks Window

I first spotted this J. Crew window display way back in May at Rockefeller Center along with this one. I photographed it, but it all you could see was me {and I don't like being in photos} and all the other buildings. So, I found it locally and rephotographed it for your viewing pleasure.

I haven't had a snow cone in years! I can't actually eat the regular ones anymore which is okay since they are just sugar water. This real fruit snow cone syrup recipe sounds delicious though and you can add whatever fruit you want.

George Sacaris Studio & Faux Bois

I posted about these Faux Bois tree tables last year but I love the new styles out, like the log benches and the metallic mirrored finish.

I still think the brightly colored coffee table and larger sizes would be great in a retail display and the small stumps would make a great bedside table.  If I remember the conversation correctly {this is from the ICFF back in May, so it's been a while}, some of the finishes can even be used outdoors.

Thrifting :: Slacker Edition

I have been pretty stressed out lately and working hard.  Last week I was pretty busy trying to gain access to my email account, working extra hours {many involving crawling around buildings}, and redoing my taxes - the IRS tells me how I've screwed them up every year.  Then there has been all this heat and humidity where my hair takes on a life of it's own.  So I decided to relax instead of blogging.  I feel much better now.

Since it's fun to drive around in a hot car with no AC I decided to stop at a local consignment shop.  I purchased my sofa there 10 years ago for about $200 but after that trips have been more miss than hit.  They had some nice things this time, so here is what I found:

The upholstery is shot on this bench so it's probably not worth the money they are trying to get for it but it's really nice and could look great with some new fabric.

This midcentury tea and coffee set caught my eye but they were asking $175 for it.  I feel like this is more an item for ebay than a consignment shop but I'd be interested to see if it sells.  I forget the name of it....

I actually love this mirror.  I'd paint it something other than brown though.

This cute little pie crust table was one of my favorite pieces.  It was also really sturdy for a vintage piece and was one of the most reasonably priced items there.

Cute little table, I love the drop pull.

I thought these vintage car prints were nice but my photo of them is terrible.  They'd need new frames but could be perfect in the right place.
