Happy First Day of Winter!!!!

Or at least it seems like it today with all the snow.  I kind of like snow, not to drive in but I love snow storms and snow so much that I prefer to go on vacation in the winter to Montreal {I realize this is sick since the temps can get well below zero}.  It's really pretty there in the winter though.

Today's early snow has inspired me to post on white and mostly white rooms which is a rarity for me.

60s Artwork

I don't post about artwork too often so I thought I'd post a painting by John Friel {1966} that caught my eye recently when it went up for auction in LA.

 It first caught my eye in this vignette on LA at Home blog.  The vignette is by LA-based David John {who doesn't seem to currently have a website}.  It looks much more vibrant in the photo below which could be a result of photoshop but I like it either way.

Free People - Summer Window

This picture should be filed under: Pictures I Meant To Post A Long Time Ago But Forgot All About.

I took a picture of this window at Free People at the beginning of the summer and, looking at it now, it reminds me of this window at Anthropologie with cascading paper circles. That makes sense since they are the same company but it's still funny to see the same themes running throughout their companies at the same time.

When I worked in visual merchandising and no one could think of a good visual technique for a display, I would often suggest we hang things from the ceiling.  This idea was generally met with my boss shaking his head and walking away.  I guess I worked for the wrong company...

Fabric You Can Smoosh Your Face In...

...or is it smush?  That word hasn't yet made it to the dictionary I used.

Anyway, that is the description from Martyn Lawrence Bullard about his new fabric line.  I have to admit I didn't make it to the showroom after his seminar to check it out in person {eventually I will} but in pictures it looks quite nice.

It's a combination of huge prints and smaller plains.   Either of these would be perfect to reupholster my armchair in if only silk was appropriate around children {I have 6 nieces and nephews and need fabrics that I don't have to worry about}.

He also has a new book out that someone sitting near me had and was flipping through. I'm pretty selective about design books but this one looked good from what I could see.  If only design books weren't so expensive...

I Have A Confession To Make

Way back near the very beginning of my blog {originally at another url} I made a post about matching pets to your decor.  At the time, I happened to make the statement that I didn't do it myself. 

Then this happened.

She practically blends right into the 'fancy' 70s tile in the bathroom.  The funny thing is that I never noticed it even though this is her favorite room {she loves the running water}.
