Blue

I found this amazingly colored blue wall in a furniture showroom.

I wish the color photographed better, I don't think it's the same as it was in person.  I'll have to find out the paint color.

Global Views End Tables

If anyone has a RueLaLa account, I just found these large {end table sized} leather boxes from Global Views that would be great as end tables.  I think they are available until they are sold out or for two days, whichever comes first.  If I needed some I would certainly get these for my living room.  They are very reasonably priced, though I don't know the quality of this company.

Let me know if you need an invitation - I've never ordered from the site {the sale I wanted to purchase from sold out too quickly} but they seem to have some great sales.

Newest Lonny Magazine

So I realize I'm probably the last person to take a look at the latest Lonny Magazine but I just popped over to their website to look at it and saw that they've made some great changes.  I really love the new image gallery.

I like the magazine and hope they keep it up online or publish it as an actual magazine some day.  I also still hope they add a save feature to the online issues.  I couldn't find a contact email or I'd offer to help figure out the save feature....

Lucite Tables

Thursday I made a trip to the Donghia showroom to hear a talk by Crans Baldwin, the President and CEO of Donghia, on how interior designers can improve their business.  He has some great information and I took tons of notes so hopefully I will be able to put some of his advice to good use.

On the way out, these little tables caught my eye.

I was happy to learn that all of Donghia's furniture production has moved back to the US.  It always makes me more inclined to specify or purchase furniture if it's made in this country since I try to think about the impact of what I buy will be {both the shipping impact and the conditions of the people making the products}.  I like to hope that furniture makers in this country are treated better than in some other countries.  A very good film I saw recently, China Blue, follows a girl as she goes to work in a blue jean factory in China.  I'd recommend seeing it if you have the chance, it's a very interesting documentary.

Emco Navy Chair

I keep seeing articles and images of the new Emeco Navy Chairs that debuted at the Milan Furniture Fair earlier this month and are produced out of recycled soda bottles.  From the images they look like they will be a great chair so I thought I would share.

It also seems like they will be half the price of the metal navy chairs {price was a main reason I wasn't able to convince a client that these chairs would be a good idea for their break room - the other was that I casually mentioned I saw them on a television show in a prison - oops}.

I hope to be able to see them up close at the ICFF to see if they look as nice in person.  I also hope they don't have a Coke ad on the back of them in real life and that was only put in for the photo shoot.  I would only get a chair like that if it was free {and these certainly are not}.

There is an interesting article on the L.A. at Home blog about the quality of the original Emeco Navy chairs vs two of the current knock-offs.  It's something to think about when looking at original furniture versus cheap knock-offs and deciding what is right for you.

Dennis & Leen

I was in the Boston Design Center yesterday and found this beautiful chandelier by Dennis & Leen in the window of Webster & Company.   I took some photos {at my usual mediocre quality} but if you click onto the website and see the detail of the chandelier you can see all the beads lining the metal and how beautiful it is.

If anyone wants me to design a room for them using this chandelier, let me know.  It would be my favorite project ever.

Chairs!

I broke down and purchased a few chairs at the consignment store this past weekend.  I have had my eye on them for about a month and finally decided to buy them.

They all need a lot of TLC but I'm up for it once I decide what I want to do with them.  Until then, they are in the barn for the woodchucks to nap on.

I'm not sure about the bentwood chair yet but I'm thinking the cane-backed chairs would look nice in white.  I also think I might try to figure out how to take the upholstery off the back and replace it with caning.  I like the cleaner look of the caning better.

Happy Patriot's Day

In case you are wondering what it is, it's to celebrate the beginning of the Revolutionary War and Paul Revere's ride, it's also when the Boston Maraton is run {today was perfect running weather}. It's really only observed in Massachusetts, and only by the government and schools or those who have to cross the marathon route to get to work {luckily this year I didn't}.

The video will explain:

This post is really just an excuse for me to post a Schoolhouse Rock video, sorry....

My New Favorite Furniture Shop

I have been regularly visiting the consignment shop where I purchased my Eames Chair.  It is gigantic, everything is reasonably priced, and the owner and all the people that work there are fantastic.  I'm glad I finally stopped in since in among the country-style items there were so many unexpectedly amazing finds.

I took some pictures of my favorite pieces.  I have a problem with chairs.  I think I like them too much.

A Baughman chair with 70s fabric.

As you can see there are plenty of mid-century pieces and some other nice traditional furniture pieces like the wing-backs and the pair of black and gold Hollywood regency-ish chairs. It's hard to tell from the photo but they are in excellent condition and the fabric is a slightly sparkly {but not obnoxiously so} gold.   When I was there the first time, two middle aged women were talking about reupholstering them and I had a moment where I thought I had to buy them to rescue them from a dull fate. How could they get rid of the sparkle!!

Perhaps I'm not normal.

Complete Chaos

I am in the middle of an organization frenzy which means things are a big mess {mostly my papers which I decided to organize after I found all my tax receipts in different places}.  I'm hoping this slideshow will help motivate me to move things along.

Sparkly Lighting

I finally looked at a lighting manufacturer this past week that I have been meaning to check out for a while.  Robert Abbey Lighting has quite a few of the lights that I have seen and wondered the source of.  They are available a few places online and seem to be very reasonably priced - not dirt cheap, but affordable.

Now that I found something that puts me in a good mood, I'm off to do my taxes.

More Bedroms

I woke up at 4:30 this morning {it's not much later now} and am wide awake.  I figured I'd be "productive" by blogging and catching up on shows online.  Since today is a long day for me I thought I'd put up some more of my favorite bedrooms - these may be the only beds I'll be seeing for a while.

As long as I'm up and being productive, I'm going to walk to Burdick's before work.  I forgot to get my parents bunnies for Easter this year {they get these every year and love them}.  I'm hoping they have some left to sell.  Otherwise they will get the mice which are just as cute and probably just as delicious!

Maxim Fast Food Restaurant

I really love this Hong Kong Restaurant, Maxim's MX.  I found a small picture of it in an old Interior Design magazine and went searching for more.  It was designed by Alan Chan Design and Steve Leung and is different than the rest of the Maxim chain.

I really like the bold design and the graphics, which were made by local artists and all reference hearts, and they are balanced by a lot of white, but I'm not sure how I would feel about spending a lot of time in here {like in Pinkberry}.  That's why it's a fast food restaurant, I guess.

All Confused

I've spent the day confusing people about what week it is.  At the same time I know it's April 5th, I keep telling people that it's next week and finalizing plans for next week like it is now.

I think I just need sleep.  I also think I'd sleep much better if I had this bedroom.

Nightstands

I have an old step stool as one of my nightstands - I've been using it ever since I was a college student and it works {kind of}.  Most of the problem is that the cat really likes jumping around under it and flinging stuff off the top, so nothing really stays on it.

Sometimes I think about buying one that I can actually put stuff in but not until I find the perfect one.  I really like some of the nightstands in this slide show.
