Modern Rustic Renovation

I found this modern rustic (or modern country) house in Los Gatos, California by Mark English Architects. I love the yellow color found in the entryway and the kitchen, it's very cheery and welcoming. I think that the whole house is fabulously sparse but still quite warm.

I really wish there was a better image of the circular lighting(?) kind of seen through the front window. I would love to see what it is.

Girl's Bedroom

If I was a teenager now, this is what I would want for my bedroom. I think when I was actually a teenager, I could never make up my mind about what I wanted.

It's obviously for someone young but not too childish.

Recycled Bottle Chandelier

I am a huge fan of environmental designer, Michelle Brand's, products. She makes beautiful chandeliers (and though I don't see them on her website, I believe screens) out of the bottoms of plastic bottles. She cuts the bottoms off, sands them and fastens them into these beautiful forms. It's recycling done right.

The chandelier above is one of her creations. It's 5' high and 2' in diameter and quite beautiful I think. It's available in the U.S. at Neiman Marcus' Christmas Book. And while it's way out of my price range, I can still dream.....

Floral Vignette

Sometimes a little flower is all you need to brighten up a space. This flower and this paper are a wonderful combination. I love how the pattern on the paper looks through the vase.

Barneys Window Displays

Perhaps it's obvious, due to my mulitple postings of Anthropologie store windows, but I love store front window designs. I knew who Simon Doonan was before I had ever stepped foot in a Barneys and I love seeing what has been done for the window display more than I actually like shopping.

Displays can be so creative and completely outrageous or more serious and elegant. I was responsible for a store window as part of my job during grad school and would love to do more of them.

A couple of my favorites from Barneys:

A small army of Mister Potato Heads.

A tree made out of metal coat hangers.

I'm planning a Manhattan trip in early December to check out the holiday displays and I can't wait to see what they have installed this year.

Warm Modern Living Room

I found this fabulous ad for carpet from the Anji Mountain Bamboo Rug Company. Their rugs are made of 80% bamboo which, in my experience, is incredibly soft and dries very quickly. I'm not sure why bamboo dries so quickly but for towels it's a great feature.

I love the feeling of this warm modern living room. Although there is no color, the wood tones, the plush rug, and the curved shape of the coffee table, along with the sunlight streaming through the window, give the space this warm feeling. I also like that the curves on the coffee table allow those who are accident prone *ahem* to walk around without fear and, for that reason, it would also be great for kids.

Rose Street Market

I've been cooped up sick all week. I'm sad that I couldn't meet a friend for coffee since I have a sore throat still. Equally sad is that Rose Street Market in Australia so far away. This would be the perfect place to meet for Sunday coffee.

With it's mix of colors it even looks cheerful on a rainy day.

Sofa Upgrade - On The Cheap

When I get bored of my living room I usually just change the pillows (or pillow covers) since it's cheap and I'm fairly happy with my furniture. I can also sew a bit so when I saw these pillows that have been made from Anthropologie placemats I was in love.

I usually just get fabric or pre-made covers so I don't have to get new pillow forms and the covers fold and store nicely in case I want to change back. Recently I bought a box of stuffing when I was making soft blocks as baby presents so I have plenty of that to make any sized pillow I need, I was thinking of some bolsters. I guess I wouldn't need placemats for that!

It's something to think about. First I have to get my sofa reupholstered!

The Standard Hotel Lobby Chandelier

I know at one point I said I don't usually like lights with exposed light sources. This is one example of a fixture where I don't mind it at all. The light is the Taraxacum 88 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos.

Found in the Standard Hotel, LA.

Organic Fabrics, Fabulous Tea Towels & Modern Baby Toys

I occasionally go on searches for fabulous new organic fabrics. Sometimes I'm successful, sometimes not, but I always seem to find the most amazingly modern and organic fabrics printed in Australia. They appear to be ahead of everyone else on this effort.

My latest fabulous find is from spin spin handmade's Etsy shop!! The fabrics are a mixture of hemp and organic cotton and they are printed with water-based inks.

She makes some great tea towels which are almost too pretty to use....

....and stuffed alphabet elephants too!! They are the most adorable kid toys.
